Iconic Open University Engages CHPRBN for Accreditation of Community Health Programmes

Iconic Open University has taken another major step towards strengthening its health sciences education by formally engaging the Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria (CHPRBN) as part of the accreditation process for its Bachelor of Community Health Science (B.CHS.) and Postgraduate Diploma in Community Health Education programmes.

The move reflects the University’s commitment to ensuring that its academic programmes comply with the standards and requirements of relevant professional regulatory bodies, particularly the CHPRBN, before the commencement of the programmes.

As part of its statutory responsibilities, the CHPRBN conducts comprehensive inspections and evaluations of institutions seeking accreditation to ascertain the availability of qualified academic personnel, teaching facilities, equipment, laboratories, and other essential learning resources required for quality professional training.

Speaking during the engagement, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of CHPRBN, Dr. Bashir Idris, commended Iconic Open University for its vision and commitment to expanding access to community health education in Nigeria.

He described the introduction of the Bachelor of Community Health Science and Postgraduate Diploma in Community Health Education programmes as a timely initiative that aligns with the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen primary healthcare services across the country.

According to Dr. Idris, increasing opportunities for community health education through open and distance learning will contribute significantly to addressing the shortage of qualified healthcare professionals, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

He further assured the University of the Board’s full support throughout the accreditation process, while emphasising the need to maintain high academic and professional standards to produce competent graduates capable of meeting the nation’s healthcare needs.

The latest engagement adds to Iconic Open University’s growing list of achievements in regulatory compliance. The institution has already secured recognition and accreditation from several professional bodies, including the Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria (HRORBN), reaffirming its commitment to quality education and professional excellence.

Iconic Open University is a private open university fully licensed by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the National Universities Commission (NUC). The institution has also received NUC approval for all the academic programmes currently offered, reinforcing its position as one of Nigeria’s emerging institutions committed to accessible, quality higher education.
