The Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Sani Musa Danja, has secured the approval of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) for a strategic partnership between the Kano State Government and the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) to implement a statewide youth advocacy and sensitisation campaign aimed at tackling thuggery, drug abuse, cultism and other social vices.
The approval, contained in an official letter dated July 21, 2026, underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s support for Kano State’s efforts to strengthen youth development, crime prevention and community policing.
Although Kano has not historically experienced cultism on the scale recorded in some parts of the country, the state government noted that rising concerns over thuggery, drug abuse, youth violence and other emerging social challenges require proactive and coordinated interventions.
The initiative is expected to complement the security and social reforms introduced by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, which are aimed at restoring law and order across the state.
Among the key measures already implemented by the administration are the inauguration of a Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse to coordinate efforts against substance abuse and related crimes, the signing of an Executive Order banning thuggery and related criminal activities, the strengthening of the Neighbourhood Watch to support conventional security agencies, as well as sustained investment in youth empowerment, sports development, education and skills acquisition.
Speaking on the development, Hon. Danja commended the Inspector-General of Police for approving the collaboration and reaffirmed the Kano State Government’s commitment to working closely with POCACOV, the Nigeria Police Force and other stakeholders to build a safer and more peaceful society.
According to him, the advocacy campaign will cover schools, tertiary institutions, communities, youth organisations, religious and traditional institutions, as well as civil society groups, with the goal of promoting responsible citizenship, peaceful coexistence and respect for the rule of law.
The Kano State Government reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property while empowering young people to become productive citizens capable of contributing meaningfully to the state’s socio-economic development.
