Suspension Of Foreign Aid Is A Threat To Nigerians Health Issue

An expert has warned that the suspension of United States foreign aid for HIV/AIDS programmes could reverse years of progress and expose young Nigerians to renewed risk.

The Managing Director of Reach Care Foundation, Dr Nandul Durfa, said this on Sunday in Abuja while reacting to the termination of funding agreements following a new US policy on foreign aid.

Durfa told the News Agency of Nigeria that the Federal Government must “fully fund” HIV/AIDS services to prevent a relapse to what he described as the gory days of the disease.

He was responding to a letter from the Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria, informing his organisation of the termination of funding support.

In the letter signed by Dr Patrick Dakum, the institute’s Chief Executive Officer, the institute said that due to prevailing funding constraints, the organizationis compelled to terminate all contracts currently in force with all respective organizations.
