Nigeria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have signed a new five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening defense and military collaboration between the two countries.
The agreement was announced by the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Mohammed Bello Matawalle, via a post on his official X handle. It outlines enhanced cooperation in military training, intelligence sharing, defence production, strategic security operations, and other areas intended to bolster national and regional security.
According to a statement by the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Ahmed Dan Wudil, the pact marks a major milestone in deepening bilateral ties between Abuja and Riyadh.
Dr. Matawalle signed the MoU on behalf of Nigeria, while Dr. Khaleed H. Al-Biyari represented the Saudi government.
The Ministry of Defence described the development as timely and expressed optimism that the collaboration will support ongoing efforts to tackle security challenges in parts of the country.
“This agreement underscores Nigeria’s readiness to work with global partners to strengthen its defence capabilities,” the statement said. “With this renewed cooperation, we are confident that current security issues will be significantly reduced.”
The five-year pact is expected to enhance capacity-building, operational effectiveness, and joint initiatives between the two countries.
